about

Before Daniel Passed away last year we talked a lot about his adventure filled life and his unique take on the world. We wrote about 10 songs all up and I'm so glad we got to record this song before he died. Every Friday we'd sit in his living room and his sister Lisa would join us for half an hour maybe and we'd sing some of his favourites and some of the ones we'd written together. Lisa has supported Whoopee-Do Crew from the beginning and performs with us whenever she can. Her vocals and guitar playing feature on this recording. The song is aout one night when Daniel went to a strip joint which was crowded with French sailors who had just come into port. He was fascinated by the fact they were speaking French so he thought he'd join in the fun and starting speaking his made up version of Spanish. A few well chosen swear words and lots of gesturing and making faces. Unfortunately by the end of the night he found himself involved in a physical altercation. When he came to at the hospital he was still speaking his version of Spanish and the nurses decided they better ring his mother about getting someone to translate for Dan. She had to break it to them that not only could he speak English perfectly well, his Spanish was basically non-existent.

lyrics

Some questions got no answers (Dan Crook)

At the Crazy Horse it’s a 20 buck entry
I lie and say the boss said to say that he sent me
She thinks I’m familiar and I never argue
When she lets me in for free

I got a long beard, they call me Osama
Or Jesus Christ but I’m a real charmer
I just say cheers, they buy the beers (say)
How’d you get down from the cross?

CHORUS
You may ask
You may well ask
You may ask
Why some questions got no answers

Merchant ships bring the French sailors
With American dollars, we keep the change
Making monkey sounds at the Indian bouncer (say)
Why don’t you throw them out?

Pointing and laughing French are not reticent
In Spanish I speak serving up their own medicine
Capusa putana, what is your problem?
Capusa you son of a bitch?

CHORUS

In a fight with the sailors I got arrested
Cops can’t do me for language offensive
Abuse them in Spanish, they don’t know the difference (say)
What planet do you come from?

On the way to the lock up see me stop breathing
Came to at the hospital Spanish I’m speakin still
They rang my mother need an interpreter
He’s just putting it on (she said)
